About me

I'm a journalist, photographer and author with more than a decade of experience in automotive publishing. Much of my work is on classic cars, motoring history and technical subjects, but I also write new car road tests, consumer features and interviews.

I did a degree in Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University, and began freelancing for car magazines such as Car Design & Technology, Practical Motorist and Car Mechanics. In 1994 I joined Fast Car as a staff writer and was soon promoted to technical editor. In 1996 I was made editor of Retro, later relaunched as Classics magazine. I went freelance again in 2002, and since then I've written nine motoring books and dozens of features for magazines and websites. I also lecture part-time on Coventry University's Automotive Journalism MA course.
