Sam Sheehan is MGMW winner - Andrew Noakes - Motoring Writer

Every year the Midland Group of Motoring Writers presents an award for the best final project produced by a Coventry University MA Automotive Journalism student. Today I was delighted to present the 2014 award (above) to Sam Sheehan.

Sam's project began with an in-depth analysis of video car reviews, and he then put his knowledge into practice by creating and presenting an MG3/Skoda Citigo twin test video. This followed up a more light-hearted video he made earlier in his course.

During his course Sam was a member of the Coventry University kart racing team which won the British Universities Karting Championships in April 2014 and a month before the end of the course, in August 2014, he secured a soughtafter job as staff writer on the renowned performance car magazine Evo.

This is the second time the Midland Group has presented an award for Coventry automotive journalism students and the first time the prize has carried the name of John Connor, the veteran Midlands newspaperman, motoring correspondent and MGMW member who died following a collision on the M25 in January 2014.

The winner of the 2013 MGMW Award, Max Prince, is now an associate editor for the US magazine Road and Track.
