Thursday, 13 December 2007

Ford Cosworth DFV: The Inside Story of F1's Greatest Engine by Andrew Noakes has won the Guild of Motoring Writers' prestigious Timo Makinen Award for 2007.

The book details the entire Formula One career of the DFV series, from the engine’s conception in 1965 and its supremely successful debut in the back of the Lotus 49 in 1967, through its dominance of F1 in the 1970s, to its re-emergence in the 1980s in 3.5-litre form.

Each chapter is packed with technical detail, anecdotes and interviews, supported by a wealth of archive photographs, many of them previously unpublished. In addition there are comprehensive appendices listing every World Championship and Indycar race win. The story extends to cover all the DFV’s derivatives that dominated motorsport across the globe for more than 15 years.

The award was presented at the Guild's annual dinner at the Royal Automobile Club in London on December 13. The award is presented annually for excellence in motor sport reporting by a Guild member.
