Kent's racing writer makes Rushmoor debut PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 30 March 2006

Motoring writer Andrew Noakes is about to swap his word processor for a crash helmet to make his motor sport debut, at Rushmoor Arena near Aldershot, Hampshire.

The Tonbridge-based author will be competing in his classic MG Midget in Farnborough and District Motor Club's Dimanche Sprint, on April 9. The event will see modern and classic sports cars from all over the south east and beyond competing against the clock, split into classes by engine size and car type.

Noakes, 36, is a former car magazine editor turned freelance motoring writer whose latest book, The Classic Car Book, is published this month (see www.andrewnoakes.com for more details). He was recently elected Vice-Chairman of the Southern Group of Motoring Writers.

"I've been writing about other people in motor sport for years," he says, "but this is the first time I've had to chance to compete myself. I can't wait to get out on the track at Rushmoor for the first practice runs."

The Rushmoor event is the first round in the Southern section of the MG Car Club Luffield Speed Championship. The championship comes to Kent's Lydden International Circuit near Canterbury on June 17.
